A PHD PROGRAM OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE · UNIVERSITY OF BASEL

Research Data Management rdm

Research Data Management in Health Sciences

Description

Proper research data management (RDM) is becoming an important prerequisite for the successful approval and execution of research projects.

This two-day course will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills to enhance the management of the research data in your PhD project, with a specific focus on documenting data and annotating metadata

Day 1
On the first course day, you will have the opportunity to discuss your RDM challenges with RDM experts of the University of Basel and learn from them about the basic principles, methods, tools, and legal aspects of RDM. You will receive practical advice on data organization, data protection, storage solutions and useful RDM services.

Day 2
On the second course day, Dr. Silke Gerlich from the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration will conduct an in-depth training session on data documentation and metadata annotation. This will equip you with the necessary knowledge to publish your research data in repositories specific to the health sciences.

Learning objectives

  • You know and understand basic principles, methods and tools for RDM in the health sciences.
  • You are able to apply the gained knowledge to store, organize and document your own research data and annotate relevant metadata.
  • You are able to critically assess your own data management and you know the most important service providers for RDM at the University of Basel.

Target group

University of Basel PhD students of the Faculty of Medicine and of Swiss TPH.

Min 6, max 17 participants
