Funding for External Courses

Students registered to PPHS and PhD Program Biomedical Engineering can apply for funding of external courses.

What kind of courses can you apply for?

External courses are essential courses for your PhD that award ECTS and are not offered by the University of Basel. Take these courses up in your individual curriculum (=learning agreement) and cover essential competencies of the PhD education.

What is covered by the funding?

The funding covers costs for course fees and only in 2025 travel. Costs for accommodation will not be reimbursed.

You can apply for up to 1500 CHF during your PhD. The financial support depends on the funds available and the number of courses funded for you previously.

For conferences and research trips of up to 10 days, consult the University of Basel’s Travel Fund.

How to apply?

Please send the signed application form together with a course description to the Coordination Office prior to registering for a course. The coordination office will generally inform you about the decision within 2-3 weeks.

Within 2 weeks of completing the course, please send the reimbursement form (which you will receive after approval of the funding), a copy of the course certificate, and proof of payment to the Coordination Office. Reimbursement can only be processed with all relevant documents.
