A PHD PROGRAM OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE · UNIVERSITY OF BASEL

Your Research in a Video

Your Research in a Video

Basic skills in filming and video-editing for researchers

Course description

In this 2.5-day course, participants will generate a video clip about their research project.

On the first day, students will be introduced to the steps of filmmaking and will then draft their first storyboard. In a second step, students will generate footage about their research. On the second day, the students will learn about film cutting and editing and will then apply this new knowledge to their own videos to generate the first version of their film on the research project. On the following day, all video clips will be watched and discussed in a small “film festival”.

This course is jointly organized by PPHS and the PhD program Biomedical Engineering.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to

  • Describe the aims of visual science communication in the video format
  • Plan the steps of filmmaking for your own project
